Commitment to Safety

Safety is one of our company’s core values. We urge safety in our workplaces and in the responsible use of our products by our consumers.

Safety in the Workplace

We are committed to creating a safe and healthy working environment for our employees. We employ rigorous safety standards in our manufacturing facilities:

  • We require all employees to wear proper safety equipment (such as eye and ear protection) and follow safety protocols.
  • We post safety signs in clear locations throughout our facilities as a constant reminder that safety is our number one priority.
  • We require factory employees to complete training to ensure they fully understand how to do their jobs and operate the equipment around them.

In Fiscal Year 2019, Vista Outdoor reported a 1.72 Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) total recordable injury rate.

Product Safety Compliance

Vista Outdoor maintains a robust product safety system including compliance to consumer product safety standards and regulations related to chemical risks. This includes strict compliance with California’s Safe Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, Europe’s Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH), Europe’s Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS), the US Toxics in Packaging Clearinghouse (TPCH) and others. These standards and regulations assure that consumers are made aware of any potential chemical risks through a system of testing, certification and labeling. Vista Outdoor Supports the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS)

Background checks are only as strong as the records in the database. The Fix NICS Act was federal legislation designed to increase records-sharing with the National Instant Criminal Background Check System at the federal and state levels. The bill punishes non-compliant federal agencies, makes more federal funding available for records-sharing, and incentivizes states to submit complete records to the NICS database. Vista Outdoor proudly supported the legislation and was pleased to see it pass in March 2018.

Vista Outdoor Supports Operation Secure Store

This operation is a joint initiative between the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) to help Federal Firearms Licensees (FFL) make well-informed security-related decisions to deter and prevent thefts.  Vista Outdoor also supports the FFL Protection Act, federal legislation that would increase penalties against those who steal from FFL retailers.  Since 2016, more than 15,000 guns were stolen from FFL retailers, many of which go on to be used in subsequent crimes.

Lewiston’s Quality Department Celebrates No-injury Milestone

CCI/Speer is proud to kick off National Safety Month with a safety milestone at its the Lewiston, Idaho facility. The facility’s Quality Department recently reached 14 years of injury-free operation. This means 160 employees worked nearly 1.1 million hours, shot and tested nearly 50 million rounds without OSHA recordable injury.

Bill Mackleit, Sr. Director, Factory Division Operations in Lewiston, says safety in Lewiston is not a ‘check the box’ exercise.

“Safety is deeply engrained in our culture,” said Mackleit. “The alliance between engaged employees and servant leaders allow injury-free environments and safety-conscious cultures like ours to exist.”
