Employee Spotlight: Jon Zinnel

man wearing hunter orange and camoJon Zinnel is an incredible showcase for shooting sports. He’s lived it, breathed it, worked it and taught it for 15 years. And not on a small scale, either. Zinnel has helped thousands of kids learn about wildlife conservation and shooting sports.

Yes. Thousands.

Zinnel, Conservation & Youth Shooting Sports Program Manager for Federal and CCI Ammunition, is one of the lucky ones who has dug deeper into what he loves his entire life. He followed his passion, including when it came time to determine a career.

“An opportunity and positive experience often leads you to becoming passionate. It brings great joy to help others gain an understanding and develop an interest in shooting sports and conservation,” Zinnel said.

His teaching goes deeper than the basics. Before moving to Minnesota, Zinnel founded a Youth Shotgun Team in Utah that remains the largest program in the state to date. His guidance couldn’t have been too far off target: One shooter he coached at the start of his career is now a four-time All-American Trap Shooter, holding four world records.

Before founding the youth program and hopping on with Federal and CCI, Zinnel worked for the Mule Deer Foundation, developing and implementing the M.U.L.E.Y. (Mindful, Understanding, Legal & Ethical Youth) outdoors program that continues to introduce tens of thousands of kids to wildlife conservation and shooting sports each year.
