Congress Comes Together for the Outdoors

evergreen trees with foggy mountainsLast week, the United States House of Representatives passed the Great American Outdoors Act with a bipartisan majority. The legislation previously passed the United States Senate, which means this bill is on its way to becoming law. President Trump is expected to sign the bill in the very near future.

The Great American Outdoors Act is formed through a bipartisan coalition of elected officials, coalitions and industry. Vista Outdoor has been a supporter since day 1, and some of our key outside partners have also supported the legislation, including the National Shooting Sports Foundation and the Outdoor Industry Association, which shows the power of the outdoors to unite our country.

This legislation would use energy revenues on public lands to reduce the growing maintenance backlog on public lands, which is increasingly burdening land management agencies and visitors alike. The legislation also provides $900 million annually to the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which will help develop more conservation and outdoor recreation opportunities on both the federal and state level. These victories are the product of bipartisan efforts coming together to advance a historic solution for our public lands.

Vista Outdoor will stay involved with the bill as it is implemented by the federal Department of the Interior.

Next step priorities:
1.) Increase hunting access

2.) Direct state-side funding to urban locations where outdoor infrastructure is not readily available
